Post-Construction Cleaning: What to Expect (and What It Costs)

Drywall dust gets everywhere. Here's how pros tackle a post-construction clean — and what it should cost.

November 22, 2025·7 min read·By Tehachapi Cleaning Co.

If you've just finished a remodel or new build, you already know: drywall dust is a different kind of enemy. It's microscopic, electrostatic, and it gets into every hinge, vent, and outlet. A normal cleaning crew is the wrong tool for the job.

The three phases of a real post-construction clean

Phase 1 — Rough clean

Done while trades are still finishing. Large debris removal, sweep, basic wipe-down so the next trades aren't working in dust.

Phase 2 — Final clean

After all trades are out. Walls vacuumed top-to-bottom with HEPA, all surfaces wiped twice, every vent cover removed and washed, every window cleaned inside and outside the frame, every outlet plate.

Phase 3 — Touch-up

About 7–10 days after the final clean. Dust that settled out of the air gets caught before move-in or photography.

Typical Tehachapi pricing

ScopeRange
Final clean only$0.35 – $0.55 per sq ft
Final + touch-up$0.50 – $0.75 per sq ft
Add window exteriors$3 – $7 per window

What to require in writing

  • HEPA vacuums (not shop vacs only).
  • Microfiber + damp wipe, no dry dusting.
  • All vents removed, washed, and reinstalled.
